It Was Only A Rose

It was only a Rose that she gave me

That’s now all wrinkled and dead

But there was a time

When true love was mine

And this Rose was all living and red

This very same Rose she gave me

One summer night in June

While near a Rose tree

She picked it for me

And we kissed beneath a full moon

If only I had known then

That after that kiss we would part

For what seems just a Rose

God only knows

How it’s really a thorn in my heart

When my work is over

And from the cares of the day I am free

I take down my book

For just one more look

At a Rose that brings back a memory
